Investment thesis

Aescap manages two concentrated, high-conviction funds — Aescap Life Sciences (launched 2016) and Aescap Genetics (launched 2022) — that invest exclusively in publicly listed biotech and life sciences companies. Each fund holds approximately 20 carefully selected positions chosen on the basis of strong management, proprietary technology, distinctive medicines with robust competitive moats, significant growth potential, and attractive valuations derived from DCF analysis. The funds target companies with the potential to more than double their share price over 4–5 years, with a medium-term net annual return target of 20%+. Geographic focus is on Western Europe and North America, where biotech innovation is most concentrated. Aescap Genetics specifically targets companies at the forefront of gene, cell, and RNA therapy — treatments that address the root cause of diseases rather than symptoms. The investment team, which has personally invested more than €40 million in the funds, applies a private-equity mindset to public markets, combining fundamental valuation with intensive management dialogue and AI-driven data science.

Notable quotes

What you see in America is that they think big right from the start. A lot of money is invested right from the start. That's nice for an entrepreneur. On the other hand, if you don't perform, you're immediately replaced. In Europe you can see that we are moving more in the direction of the United States.

Clinical trials, which drive the biotech industry, came under pressure during the pandemic or were even halted, leading to a fall in share prices. Since September 2022, all trials have resumed and 2023 even saw the second highest number of FDA drug approvals. However, many companies are still licking their wounds after this period of uncertainty.

So far we have reached our goal to deliver an annual average net performance of +20% and will do our utmost to continue to do so if not better. We are confident we have built a very strong team.
