Bain Capital Life Sciences was founded in 2016 to invest scale capital globally in transformative medicines, medical devices, diagnostics, and life science tools that have the potential to improve the lives of patients with unmet medical needs. The team draws on deep industry expertise, clinical insights, and cross-asset class investing experience across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics, and life science tools. BCLS targets four types of investment opportunities: Inflection Capital (engaging with companies at critical stages of development), Growth Capital (supporting commercialization and geographic expansion), Fallen Angels (partnering with companies at a crossroads to create value), and Transformation at Scale (creating, building, and restructuring companies for their next inflection). Since inception, the firm has raised approximately $6.7 billion across four funds and invested in more than 70 companies globally.
Notable quotes
“Now that the scale is matching the ability to do good diligence and make good investment decisions, you are seeing more comfort in entering the space.”
“I think it's very sustainable. It's going to be the source of capital for a lot of new companies, so I'm quite optimistic and constructive on this, what we call the 'SpinCo NewCo Model.'”
“I saw that healthcare businesses can have a broad impact on patient care. If you develop a drug or device that helps millions of people in need, you can affect an order of magnitude more people.”
