Foresight Technology VCT (FWT Shares) invests in early-stage, IP-rich UK companies commercialising innovative and disruptive 'deep technology' — spanning both hardware and software — that address large global challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, ageing populations and geopolitical instability. The fund targets companies that demonstrate an 'order of magnitude' improvement in performance or cost versus the status quo, with defensible intellectual property and large addressable markets. Investee companies typically range from pre-revenue to pre-profit stage. The strategy is built on a unique collaboration between Foresight's financial and commercial expertise and a network of technical advisers — originally Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE), now Fortescue Zero — who lead on deal sourcing, technical due diligence and post-investment support. The fund has co-invested with over 80 investors and, since 2017, has reviewed over 3,000 business plans, investing into 43 portfolio companies across 94 rounds, delivering two successful exits (Codeplay at 16x and Flusso at 3x).
