Red & Blue Ventures is a privately owned, seed- and early-stage venture capital fund that invests exclusively in companies from the University of Pennsylvania ecosystem. A company's connection to Penn typically means having a student, faculty member, or alumnus in a key management role, or leveraging core technology developed at the university. The firm primarily focuses on the information technology industry — defined broadly to include hardware, software, ecommerce, and technology-enabled services for both businesses and consumers — where its experience and networks allow it to add the most value. Red & Blue prefers to lead or co-lead investments, takes an active post-investment role (often a board director or observer seat), and concentrates on companies in the greater Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington DC areas to maximize in-person engagement with portfolio management.
