Solid Bond is a Manchester-based UK pre-seed venture capital firm founded by operators Steve Caunce and Shaz Sulaman. The firm's core thesis is that the most valuable support a first-time investor can provide is not just capital, but genuine hands-on operational expertise — "support that's as valuable as the capital." The founders bring 20+ years of experience scaling high-growth UK businesses, most notably at Phones4U and AO.com (floated at $1.5B), and invest this operator pedigree directly into portfolio companies. Solid Bond invests exclusively at the pre-seed and early seed stage in B2B tech or tech-enabled businesses — primarily vertical SaaS, applied AI, and workflow tools — with cheques of £150k–£500k, usually as part of rounds up to £1m. They focus on UK-based founders, with a preference for the North West of England, and explicitly exclude life sciences, deep tech, gambling, and alcohol. As the firm states: "We aren't your typical investor. You're not OK with failing and neither are we. We're operators. We've grown businesses from first ticket to exit."
