The Players Fund is the UK's first athlete-led VC firm, founded by athletes for athletes. It writes initial cheques of £50,000–£300,000 into high-performing early-stage businesses at Seed and Series A, co-investing alongside world-class VC funds rather than leading rounds. The firm focuses predominantly on the UK and Europe but remains open to exceptional global opportunities, targeting B2B software, marketplaces, SaaS, healthtech, fintech, AI, and media companies with large addressable markets — explicitly excluding early-stage sports technology businesses. The fund's strategy harnesses the privileged deal access afforded to elite professional athletes and then adds tangible growth by leveraging its network of over 850 athletes for B2B relationships, marketing, sales, and business development. As the firm states, it aims to be "the most valuable name on the cap table," transforming athletes into investors while simultaneously boosting outcomes for innovative start-ups.
