Transition Ventures backs founders building at the intersection of AI and the physical world — companies that mold atoms, not just bits. The firm believes civilization is being rewired as humanity, technology, and the physical world converge, and that the generational companies of this era will be full-stack by necessity: fusing hardware, software, and frontier science to reinvent energy, compute, industrial systems, robotics, and climate resilience. Transition labels itself a climate and deep tech fund, framing climate as a theme rather than a sector — investing in the physical bottlenecks the AI buildout is creating, from power generation and semiconductors to autonomous systems and critical minerals. Founded in 2021 by Unity co-founder David Helgason, the firm operates cross-Atlantic from London and New York, writing initial checks of $1–8M from pre-seed through Series A. With over $300M AUM across two funds, Transition runs a concentrated portfolio where every founder gets the full team. The partners are themselves founders and company builders who have scaled multiple billion-dollar companies, and they show up with care and conviction before it is obvious a company will win.
Notable quotes
“Ambitious founders don't just want to build a great business: they want to create something that will matter for generations to come. The world needs these companies more than ever. The question is whether they get the right backing to succeed. At Transition, we believe that the classic VC model of backing more of the same, incremental improvements, has run out of road. Founders shouldn't have to choose between a venture fund that has the capabilities to help them scale and a fund that is aligned with their values.”
“I didn't think people were having the right approach to core venture, late seed Series A in Europe. There wasn't not enough capital by far. So that seems like the right place to step into.”
“They're deeply committed to this space, and, more importantly, they do the work.”
