USV backs companies at the edge of large markets undergoing transformation due to technological or societal pressures. The firm is 'vehemently generalist', investing across sectors (social media, marketplaces, developer tools, fintech, health, climate, web3, AI, and more) through three fund strategies: a Core Fund (Seed & Series A in internet-enabled businesses), a Climate Fund (early-stage climate mitigation/adaptation), and an Opportunity Fund (later-stage and special situations). USV seeks businesses that build large networks of engaged users, leverage network effects, broaden access to knowledge/capital/wellbeing, and enable rapid experimentation. It operates with small fund sizes (~$275M core) and fully collaborative, consensus-driven investment decisions.
