Cambridge Enterprise Ventures invests University of Cambridge capital into high-impact, high-growth Cambridge spin-outs and start-ups, enabling entrepreneurial academics, students, graduates, and recent alumni by providing early-stage equity investment and hands-on support. The fund is evergreen — all returns are reinvested so that each new Cambridge innovation supports the next — and operates across deep tech, life sciences, sustainability, and social ventures, leveraging a co-investor network of over 100 global partners to achieve a capital leverage ratio of 1:63. The fund focuses on pre-seed and seed stages where securing first investment is most challenging, but follows its money through multiple rounds. As the team states: "We always syndicate with co-investors at seed stage and beyond, seeking the right added-value investors to bring the right cash for each business dependent on its sector and stage of investment." Since 1995, Cambridge Enterprise Ventures has supported over 212 companies, invested £55m in total, and helped portfolio companies raise £3.5bn in follow-on funding.
