Funding London

Funding London (trading name of SME Wholesale Finance (London) Limited) is a GLA-owned public-private investment vehicle established in 2004 by the Mayor of London to bridge the funding gap for early-stage London SMEs. It channels capital from public sources — including the European Regional Development Fund and the Mayor's Growing Places Fund — through appointed fund managers and co-investment structures, with returns recycled back into the London ecosystem to support the next generation of founders. Its flagship in-house vehicle, the London Co-Investment Fund (LCIF), is an £85m public-private VC fund that co-invests alongside leading seed-stage VCs, angel syndicates, and crowdfunding platforms in science, technology, and digital startups based in London that are raising between £250k and £1m and are committed to creating jobs in the capital. The Greater London Investment Fund (GLIF), a £110m fund of funds, extends this mission by providing equity and loan finance to London SMEs at Seed and Series A through sub-fund managers MMC Ventures and FSE Group. Across all funds, Funding London prioritises diverse founders and sectors aligned with the Mayor's Economic Development Strategy, including fintech, AI, healthtech, climate/clean energy, and enterprise software.
