Investment thesis

Homebrew believes in the 'Bottom Up Economy' — the idea that technology is now helping individuals and small businesses drive economic growth and innovation. For many decades, the cost, complexity and rigidity of technology limited its power and benefits to large corporations. Today, technology is increasingly accessible, cheap and flexible enough to empower individuals and small teams to compete with organizations tens or hundreds of times their size, or create entirely new markets. Homebrew invests as early as possible in mission-driven founders who are solving large, urgent and valuable problems using technology to create substantive change, unleash new markets and transform industries. The firm makes a small number of concentrated investments per year — typically leading or co-leading seed rounds — and devotes dollars, time and reputation to each founder's success, focusing on product/market fit, team building, culture, go-to-market strategy and access to follow-on capital. Since 2022, Homebrew has operated as an evergreen vehicle investing the partners' own capital, removing fund-cycle constraints.

Notable quotes

We started Homebrew because we saw that there was a lack of service being provided to founders.

We've always wanted to be the investor of record, the accountable party at the seed stage. We're leading seed rounds for a small number of companies each year, so that we can spend the majority of our time working with those companies, as opposed to looking for the next investment. We need to concentrate, not just our time or energy or reputation, but our dollars.

Technology is a great democratizer. It's impacting individuals, groups and industries now in a way that it hasn't historically, because it's gotten more flexible, more accessible, less expensive.
