Investment thesis

Inovo VC is a seed-stage fund focused on founders from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) — including the Baltics and Balkans — building global technology companies. The firm invests up to €4M at pre-seed and seed stages, with follow-on capacity up to €10M per company. As Michał Rokosz describes it: "We believe that CEE, as a region, is home to an enormous number of extremely talented tech professionals, and that we expect a sharp increase in the number of unicorns coming from the region in the next few years. We also believe that money is spent way more efficiently here than in Silicon Valley or Western Markets, and that people in the region are very entrepreneurial." Inovo is a multi-vertical fund with particular strength in Developer Tools, AI/ML, Data Science, Healthcare, SaaS-enabled Marketplaces, B2B2C, and B2B Enterprise. Its primary goal is to help portfolio companies raise a top Series A within ~18 months, leveraging a network of tier-1 global follow-on investors such as Insight Partners, Tiger Global, a16z, and Gradient Ventures. Now investing from its third €107M fund (vintage 2022), Inovo has backed 60+ startups since 2014, with seven portfolio companies exceeding €100M in valuation.

Notable quotes

If I had to describe our investment thesis in one sentence, I'd say that we believe that CEE, as a region, is home to an enormous number of extremely talented tech professionals, and that we expect a sharp increase in the number of unicorns coming from the region in the next few years.

Michał Rokosz · The Recursive — interview with Inovo VC · 2023

We strongly believe that our main goal is to help the startups we invest in to raise a top series A in the next c. 18 months. So far, our follow-on rate is ~70%, with many of the rounds being led by tier-1 global funds like Insight Partners, Tiger Global, or Gradient Ventures.

Michał Rokosz · The Recursive — interview with Inovo VC · 2023

The CEE is underrepresented globally in terms of large tech companies (with $100m+ revenues) and I want to change that. I manage the Inovo team so that we maximise the number of large tech companies we helped to get off the ground in the CEE.
