Maine Angels

Maine Angels is a membership-based network of accredited investors founded in 2003 that invests in and mentors early-stage companies, with a primary emphasis on Maine businesses and a broader reach across New England. The group looks for scalable businesses with differentiated products, capable management teams, achievable exit strategies, and sufficient addressable markets to generate high returns. They prefer East Coast and New England deals within range of a site visit, and companies outside Maine must be engaged with a lead investment organization prior to applying. Through their Dirigo sidecar funds, Maine Angels pools capital from individual investors and Maine institutions to stimulate the state's startup ecosystem, targeting 75% Maine-based companies, 40% owned or managed by women or historically underrepresented minorities, and 25% in priority sectors including Cleantech, Aquaculture/Blue Economy, Agriculture/Forestry, and Life Sciences. The network syndicates closely with state agencies (Maine Technology Institute, Maine Venture Fund) and regional angel groups (eCoast Angels, Golden Seeds, HubAngels, LaunchPad Venture Group, TiE Angels) to expand deal flow and follow-on support.
