Maine Venture Fund is a state-legislated, revolving 'evergreen' venture capital fund that invests exclusively in Maine-based companies with the highest potential for growth and public benefit. Created by the Maine Legislature in 1995 and actively investing since 1997, MVF makes equity investments (priced equity, convertible notes, SAFEs, and venture debt) in high-growth Maine businesses at the Seed and Series A stages, typically with initial check sizes around $100K, always co-investing alongside angels and institutional partners. The fund is industry-agnostic but focuses on exit-oriented companies with $250K–$5M in annual revenue (or earlier-stage founders with prior successful exits), operating primarily in Maine with 50%+ of employees in-state. MVF's mission is to fill the financing gap for early and growth-stage Maine companies, contribute to job creation, and strengthen Maine's entrepreneurial ecosystem across sectors including technology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, food & beverage, and heritage industries such as farming, fishing, and forestry.
